Annotations for Every Snowflake Is Different Just Like You

Lyric: Every snowflake’s different just like you
Annotation:
As water droplets in clouds adhere to ice crystals, they begin to form snowflakes. The shape of the snowflake depends on a variety of factors, including temperature and humidity. A snowflake continues to change due to these factors as it falls to the ground. Due to this phenomenon, scientists predict that the chances of two snowflakes being the same is one in a quintillion. That’s even less likely than being struck by lightning while being attacked by a shark! Gerard recognizes this uniqueness and relates it to how every person is different in their own way. He conveys this in the phrase “Every snowflake’s different just like you” and later says “There are so many special things about you,” further emphasizing how unique everyone is. In the episode, the main characters are trying to figure out what present to get Santa Claus and are faced with many options to choose from, such as a Race Car, a Pocket Calculator, or a pair of Headphones. The lyric “Every snowflake’s different” might also be referring to the different things they must choose from to get Santa the best gift.

This is true, but also like all snowflakes become one massive uniform lump of nothingness in which not one snowflake can be told from the other. And if they do not merge together they melt. Yay.

Lyric: Green fur, blue skin
And the very silly way you grin
Annotation:
These lines reference two main characters from Yo Gabba Gabba!. The characters with “green fur” and “blue skin” refer to Brobee and Toodee, respectively. However, the line could also tie into real life, noting that the possible differences people can have aren’t a bad thing and reinforcing the message of body positivity—a lesson that fits with the show’s goal to spread positive messages and life lessons among the general audience. Pictured: Brobee (left) and Toodee (right) My Chemical Romance would later interpolate this line in a track from their 2010 concept album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, “S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W”: He burns my skin Never mind about the shape I’m in
